Den Haag

Op zaterdag 23 februari trokken we met de ESN'ers naar Den Haag en de miniatuurstad Madurodam.

We vertrekken om 9u met de bus aan de Hogeschool. De zon staat aan de hemel. Na 2 uur rijden en 100 km over de afsluitendijk komen we aan in Den Haag. Helaas, niets dan mist daar...

Even wat meer uitleg over de stad en de bezienswaardigheden:

The Hague
Amsterdam might be the capital of the Netherlands but the city of The Hague (Den Haag in Dutch) is the seat of our government, including flamboyant Prime Minister Jan Peter Balkenende and home to her Majesty, Queen of the Netherlands: our beloved Beatrix. The Hague is also home to many international organizations. Among those are for example the Yugoslavia tribunal, the European police headquarters and the International Court of Justice, which is seated in the famous Peace Palace.
The city of The Hague is also home to many Dutch bands. Contemporary artists from The Hague include rock bitch Anouk and rock bands Kane and Di-Rect. Most famous are probably the old rockers from the Golden Earring, who were well known in the 70's and 80's for hits like Radar Love and Twilight Zone. Shocking Blue, best known for their world hit Venus, are also from The Hague. You might want to listen to some of this music to get in the right mood for the trip!

Madurodam: Miniature Netherlands
Madurodam is a major tourist attraction, visited by hundreds of thousands of tourists each year and an inspiration for Storybook Land in Disneyland. Miniature city Madurodam was named after George Maduro, who was captured by the Germans while defending the royal palace in The Hague and died subsequently in the Dachau concentration camp.
Madurodam is a 1,77 square kilometers miniature town. The town is made up of famous Dutch buildings, water works, airports, nature reserves and much more, all on a scale of 1:25. This is a great way for you to spot places you might want to visit 'in the wild' during your stay in the Netherlands!
